Finally, Summer Vacation!

This summer, things will be different.

In 2011, my family traveled to South Carolina and left me to fend for myself while Hurricane Irene ripped through New York. To say "it wasn't a great vacation" would be an understatement. My power was out for days -- I had no air conditioning (in the middle of August), no lights (in an empty house), and nowhere to go. A promotional flashlight became my BFF.

But like I said, this time around things are bound to go more smoothly! On Sunday, I'm flying out to Guanacaste, Costa Rica. I've never been to Central America before, so I'm beyond thrilled.

My family and I are staying at the Hotel Riu Guanacaste, which is supposed to be stunning. I feel really lucky that I get to tag along this time -- maybe even a little spoiled. But, hey, when you work hard all year, you're allowed to go on a fancy vacation, right?

This summer, things will be different. I will not be stuck in New York because of a hurricane. No, I'll be having the time of my life. And while I'll probably still take along my promotional flashlight (you just never know!), I plan on making a few new BFFs: the capuchin monkeys that are native to the area.

I'll be away all next week, so try not to miss my daily blog updates!

Blackout Season Oink Oink

Every summer like clockwork, we have had a few days with high temps and the whirl of air conditioners fill the air.  It is a guarenteed recipe for loss of electricity and blackout situations.  Please be careful and stock up on batteries and keep a couple of promotional flashlights on hand. One of my favorites is the eco freindly pig generator light, not only is it wicked cute but it does not run on batteries.  It works by squeezing the lever to generate energy.

So over this past weekend, my friends and I took a trip to a PA for some shopping and gun shooting. While traveling friday night, half way there my friends car got a flat tire. Being a car savy person, I took the initiative to swap the spare out. Luckily my promotional flashlight came in handy and made the job much easier. Changed the tire out in 15 minutes and we were on our way. Here at motivators, we carry a vast selection of custom auto accesssories to help you when a emergency arises. You never know when you might get a flat.

This Little Light Of Mine...

August 8, 2011 03:44 by Laurie

Unfortunately I have very poor eyesight. I have to have my contacts in or glasses on in order to see 5 feet infront of me. This also means that I require brighter light (a constant battle between Bill and I) in order to see, especially at night. With that being said, I always keep my promotional flashlight on my nightstand. My custom imprinted flashlight is great for when I have to check on Abby real fast and don't want to blind her or Bill.

Other key places I keep a custom flashlight: The car- I actually keep an eco friendly flashlight that you can wind up and don't need batteries for. Keys- I have a handy keychain light in case I am out in the dark and need light. And last but not least the bathroom - I have a custom imprinted night light. Thank goodness for all of my custom imprinted lights...they truly help me get by!

Go Red For World AIDs Day

December 1, 2009 04:27 by Jenn

You don't have to lower the brightness or adjust the contrast, Motivators has gone red. Its World AIDs Day and we're joining the cause. However, I can't take all the credit for going red, Twitter did it first.

Side Note: Yesterday, it was declared by the Global Language Monitor that Twitter is the most popular English word of the year.
When a website with such great distinction goes red, I'm going red. In fact, if Twitter went Goth I bet the continental United States would go Goth too. Of course, going Goth would be some leftover teenage angst escaping me and I'd rather go red for a righteous cause.

World Aids day is making a bang this year, because a million tweeters can't be wrong. In fact even celebrities are getting involved. Original tweet master, Ashon Kutcher tweeted, "10% of world population is in Africa. 67% of all HIV cases are there. Get involved."

How did Starbuck's reply to the need for support? They brewed a piping hot cup of coffee, took a swig and said, "We're in." If you don't believe them, just visit your nearest Starbucks and make a purchase. Five cents of your hand crafted beverage purchase will go to the Aids Global Fund. Starbucks is dedicated to the cause and said they've already raised enough money to buy over seven million days of medicine to help those infected with HIV in Africa. Now they're challenging you to go red and help support finding a cure for Aids and providing relief for those infected.

Throughout the day awareness events everywhere will be flooded with supporters fighting for a cure. With cool awareness event giveaways and passionate speakers, awareness will be spread and support will be gained. As we speak, Chembio, a New York based diagnostic tests company is going red. They've just donated more than 4,5000 rapid HIV test kits to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's 2009 Testing Millions Global Campaign.

Their amazing efforts haven't gone unnoticed either, because when you go red you go big. Terri Ford, senior director of global policy at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation said, "Rapid point-of-care tests such as Chembio's play a vital role in our vision for diagnosing HIV infections worldwide, and their generous gift to us of 4,500 tests is a sign of their commitment to our shared goals."

Now that the hottest social website and a major medical testing provider have shown their commitment to the cause in their true colors, it's time to blow this cause right out of the water. To raise awareness and raise funds for World AIDs Day, 10 cities will literally be going red tonight. Major monuments and prestigious towers will be illuminated by hundreds and thousands of crimson lights. (Baltimore, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, Columbus, OH and Providence, RI.) If you're living in or near any of these great cities, go outside and observe their monumental dedication to World Aids Day.

Having trouble finding the perfect red for you? Consider purchasing a promotional flashlight with featured red LED light. A little glow next to your face, some red apparel and you'll be going red with the best of them.

Xavier Hall - We're Gonna Need a Promotional Flashlight

November 25, 2009 08:08 by Jenn

The night crept up on Laurel and me as we neared the edge of campus. Wet fog made it impossible to see the path ahead but above us, the sky was clear. "I want to see something scary," Laurel said when we stopped walking in front of Xavier Hall. "I want to see something scaaary," she repeated.
"Well sure thing," I sarcastically thought, "That'll make the ghosts come out."

The old structure that was last inhibited by a group of nuns belonging to the sisters of Mercy, was said to be haunted. Students claimed lights would flash in the wee hours of the night and even a skeptical janitor began to think that the slamming of doors was no strong breeze. As I stood in front of Xavier Hall, my eyes wandered up to the stars while Laurel's mind revisited the ticking clock in Paranormal Activity that she had seen the night before. "Let's go to the back," she spoke softly, and we made our way around the side of the old building.

We caught up on each other’s lives, as I have been in New York and her in Maine. Every so often we caught a great star as it shot across the sky, remnants of the meteor shower earlier in the week. With her back to Xavier, Laurel was oblivious to the source of my confusion. "Uhhh there was just a flash of light," I said hesitantly. She turned around and waited for something to happen, but nothing did. We kept staring as I assured her I wasn't making this up. Just then, the third floor window shown with light and as we stood in shock, a festival of lights danced throughout Xavier Hall.

Laurel's nervous laughter continued to echo in my ear until we heard a distinct knocking. It was coming from the door closest to us and without hesitation; we began speed walking back to the pathway. My body was tingling and my jaw was clenched. I can't remember any exchange of words between the two of us, only the sound of crushing leaves beneath us and heavy breathing.

As we crossed the front of Xavier, we were tempted to look at the haunted house. In that moment a dark figure crept out of another side door. The shadow slowly came forward and stopped next to a similar figure against the buildings stone wall. "Oh my God," I said.

It didn't take me long to realize that the dark figures were two members of my old college's security team. It also didn’t take me long to connect the dots. 2 funny men bored at 1:30 in the morning and one legendary light show. As they did a round through the old building the two security guards spotted us behind the building. Feeding into the haunted Xavier Hall frenzy, they set themselves up in different parts of the building and let us have it.

After nearly scaring us to death, the lovely duo challenged us to indulged in the haunted house. Laurel agreed to follow me in after a bit of nudging, and a self realization that this kind of opportunity doesn’t come by often. With a heavy duty promotional flashlight in hand, we sauntered through the old building. From the basement to the third floor where ghosts of nuns have been sighted, we walked. Systematically, Laurel spoke, "This is really happening," every few paces. I spoke aloud as we walked through and clung to the squeaky banister in fear that I may fall if anything popped up.

We made it all the way around to the foyer, where the security guards met us while banging on the piano. I handed one of them the promotional flashlight and said, "Thanks."
"Good job," he replied, "Let us know when you're ready to go through without the flashlight."

I'm banking that we'll take him up on that challenge next time I'm back in Maine. Happy Thanksgiving.
