April Showers Bring May Flowers... Not!

May 2, 2012 11:53 by Meryem

Today is May 2, 2012 and it is still raining. Like the saying April showers bring May flowers, we still have not seen the flowers. Yesterday morning, it was raining so hard I could not walk out of the house wiitout my promotional folding umbrella. I gave my large golf umbrella to my brother who was going to school, so walking from one class to the next he would be dry. This morning I leave for work and guess what, rain again! I guess the only thing rain is good for right now is the grass and my moms vegetables she planted in the backyard.

Carabiner to the rescue

April 25, 2012 07:58 by Meryem

Before I was introduced to my promotional carabiner which I have all of my keys and keychains attached to, I was using key rings. And may I please add that those were the worst things to attach to one another. I would pinch my skin between them and break my nails trying to get the many key chains on one key ring.

I have a very bulky keychain with many different gifts attached to it. The only actual "keys" on it are my house and car keys but if you saw it you would think I own a town. (Ok maybe that was too dramatic). I like my keys bulky because it prevents me from losing them. The promotional carabiner I took from the sample room in Motivators allows me to easily attach anything I need to my keys.

Not only is promotinal carabiners used for keys, but they very convenient to attach things like your waterbottles or lunch boxes to backbags on kids. Great promotional giveaway items for any event.

Music is a must in the car

April 18, 2012 13:41 by Meryem

I love driving with my music blasting in the background. It helps me to relax and have some ME time. But not any kind of music will do it for me. It must be Turkish music which I can listen to for hours on end. You might ask where I am able to find the turkish music in the car. My favorite thing about my car (Nissan Sentra) is that it has a USB cord which I can attach to my iphone and load turkish radio. I set my iphone on my promotional mobile device holder so I am safe and can change stations with a click. After a long day at work, this is one of my musts!

Movie Time

April 11, 2012 13:26 by Meryem

For the first time in USA, Turkey released an epic war-time movie named Fetih 1453 (‘Conquest 1453’ in English) provides a historical view of the battle for Constantinople on April 6th 2012. The movie was aired in turkish with subtitles in English. This was very exciting for the turkish community and most went to support the movie. The big release captured the Battle Of Varna – the epic war fought in 1453 in which the Ottoman Empire took over the city of Constantinople.

As well as having many fight scenes, the movie provides an insight to culture, traditions, and Faith. Constantinople, which is present day Istanbul is the heart of Turkey. The movie was a history lesson more than a movie for me.

I went with my family and our family friends on Sunday night to show our support and of course the theater was filled with many other Turks. It was a great experince to share as a family and community.

Carpool

April 4, 2012 11:40 by Meryem

Yesterday coming into work at Motivators promotional products Olha, Ozzie and I decided to carpool. This was a brilliant idea and shame that we did not think about it earlier. Being that we all live in the same neighborhood, it was very convenient. Not only were we getting to spend quality time together and catch up (no we do not get to do that at work) we were actually saving on gas money and going green at the same time! Works out for everyone! Too bad we do not get to do this everyday since everyone has many things they need to do after work or during lunch. But we are always here for each other which is something you don't always find!

Hospitals are Not Fun

March 21, 2012 12:57 by Meryem

Last night, I got a call from our family friend who asked me to go to her house because we have to go to the hospital. Without any questions, I grabbed my keys, bag and jumped in my car. I got to her house in 2 minutes, picked her up and started driving. I finally asked her what happened and where we were going. She said her husband and her 18 month old baby, Furkan were in the ambulance and we need to get to Nassau University Medical Center. While driving, she told me that the baby spilled her husband mug of tea on his stomach. They immediately called 911 and rushed to the hospital. She did not forget to pack the baby's diaper bag with all the promotional baby items she would need, like the sippy cup, bottle, diapers, bib and of course toys. The "burn doctor" was not on duty so they just cleaned up and put a special ointment and wrapped up the babies stomach. By the time we were leaving the hospital, Furkan was feeling much better, smiling and giggling. I will be stopping by tonight to see what happened at the doctors appointment earlier today.

Mugs!

March 14, 2012 07:37 by Meryem

I absolutely LOVE my drinking out of mugs! Especially my promotional ceramic mug I have at work (Motivators). Walking into work every morning and needing that RIGHT cup of coffee to get started, just tastes all that better after the smile it puts on my face once I see my mug (see image below).

This particular one was actually a gift from a friend who thought this reflects my personality. Lately, I would beg to differ. Once the work day is over, I am just ready to go home and get in my comfy clothes and enjoy my cup of tea in again, my promotional ceramic mug (I have quite a few of them).

Invisible Children

March 7, 2012 12:27 by Meryem

I woke up this morning and did my morning routine as always. While enjoying my breakfast, I went on facebook to see what's going on. Lately, facebook is where I find out all my information from news, to updates on pictures, to scores on games, to the current weather. Whatever you want to know its all there. So this morning my news feed was filled with this image:

I thought hmm.. theres a new campaign going on, I wonder what Kony is running for. Little did I know, this was far from the truth. There were a few youtube videos friends shared and many comments on it stating it is a must watch, so I clicked play. The video was a film and campaign by Invisible Children (which is a movement seeking to end the conflict in uganda and stop the abduction of children for use as child soldiers) whose aims is not to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.

The goal of the Invisible Children is to make Joseph Kony famous by using celebraties, athletes, and billionares and their loud voice. What they talk about spreads easily. Then going after policy makers, the ones with authority to get Kony captured. There have been thousands of posters, stickers, yard signs and flyers that are being put up around the world. There are also bracelets printed with Kony 2012 that everyone should wear. Each bracelet has a unique ID numbers that can be inputted to enter the mission to make Kony famous. Everything is in a box called the action kit that has two bracelets- that you can have for free if you donate a few dollars a month to help fund the life saving programs by going to invisiblechildren.com.

Appreciation of Life

February 29, 2012 11:16 by Meryem

Last night, I went to visit a friend of the families, who has been staying at the Long Island Jewish Hospital in Manhasset. A 50 year old man had a level 4 stroke while at work about 10 months ago and has been a vegetable since. The many attempts have been made and there is no sign of recovery which is very very sad. Knowing someone for many years and seeing them like this broke my heart, I cannot imagine how his family must feel. Listening to the wife speak about what the doctors have been saying and how strong she was doing so, really made me look at life from a different perspective. This poor woman was told that her partner would only live about a month. She has been by his side since and 10 months have went by and even though there is no sign of recovery she has hope. Life is so tricky, as you have no idea what the next minute holds.
