No Peeking, Twitter!

February 16, 2012 05:14 by Nicholas

Foxnews.com is reporting today that Twitter will be putting a harness on its privacy settings.

The announcement comes shortly after the social media giant admitted that they copied entire entries in smartphone address books and saved them to servers - without the knowledge of the user.

When one uses the Twitter iPhone app and clicks on "Find Friends" the app copies the entire entry, saves it to its server and then proceeds with the search. According to the Los Angeles Times, these entries are held on a server for 18 months. This completely goes against Apple's policy on applications, stating exclusively that transmitting a user's information without their knowledge is illegal.

To better understand the process, Twitter Spokesperson Carolyn Penner said that language such as the current "Scan Your Contacts" will be replaced with "Import Your Contacts" or "Upload Your Contacts." By doing this, the Twitter user will be giving permission for these entries to be held online for the aforementioned amount of time. No word on when these changes are supposed to take place.

While you can't keep your smartphone, tablet or computer safe from everything on the Internet, you can protect these devices from scratches and bumps with promotional iPod covers, custom imprinted iPad cases and promotional computer bags.

Can We Expect a New iPad in March?

February 9, 2012 03:51 by Brandon

If you love having latest and greatest in technology, you'd better start saving up.  Rumors are spreading across the Internet this morning about a new Apple iPad that may be released this March.  With the supposed next generation iPad, presumably called the iPad 3, Apple hopes to maintain its top position in the tablet market.

How will the new device differ from the iPad 2? According to CNET, "The next iPad will look similar in design to the iPad 2, but run with a faster chip, an improved graphics processor, and better resolution, AllThingsD reported, citing anonymous sources. The tablet could also feature a 2048x1536 Retina Display, bringing its resolution in line with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S."

If you've got promotional iPad cases for your iPad 2, you might have to purchase a new one.  Some are predicting that the new Apple tablet will be even thinner than the last, making it lighter and more portable.

Does This Android Tablet Ad Mock the Late Steve Jobs? [VIDEO]

February 3, 2012 04:29 by Brandon

A Taiwanese television commercial is coming under fire for mocking the late Steve Jobs.  The Android tablet TV spot features Taiwanese impersonator and comedian Ah-Ken donning angel wings and a halo, and runs for approximately 20 seconds.  Check out the clip below:

While the advertisement does not specifically Mention Jobs' name or any Apple products (like the custom iPod cover), Ah-Ken, who sports a black turtleneck and jeans in the spot, looks eerily similar to the Apple cofounder.  At one point, the comedian even says, "Thank God I get to play with other tablets," while taking out an Android-powered ActionPad device.

According to Mashable, the TV ad is particularly hard-hitting because the late Jobs had expressed that he felt Google's Android operating system was a copy-cat of Apple's iOS.

What do you think -- is the new commercial disrespectful?

What's Next for the iPhone?

December 29, 2011 03:27 by Brandon

After months of speculation about the possible release of the iPhone 5, on October 4, 2011, Apple surprised us all with the unveiling of the iPhone 4S.  The new mobile device was an update on the iPhone 4, and featured a more advanced camera, a dual core processor, and an advanced voice control system, Siri.  But some Apple fanatics are still holding out for the iPhone 5, hoping for a redesigned phone in 2012.

Yesterday, Mashable reported on a new round of iPhone 5 rumors that have begun to circulate.  According to Mashable, word on the street is that the iPhone 5 will have a "redesigned front rim in rubber or plastic, possibly to connect the face to a new aluminum back plate or to cover a new antenna system."

Additionally, the phone will allegedly feature a four-inch screen and is set to launch next autumn, so mark your custom plannerspromotional Hadley month planner

Do You Pay Attention to the TV? 80% of Smartphone Users Don't

November 10, 2011 03:54 by Brandon

Television marketers often blame TiVo and other DVR services for failed TV ads.  That's because they believe that consumers are fast-forwarding through commercials.  And while that's probably true to a certain extent, there's another, less-obvious culprit.

Mashable reports that "As many as 80% of people multitask on a mobile device while watching TV."  This has serious implications for television advertising; consumers are more distracted than ever.  Viewers are browsing the Web on their Internet-enabled custom media players, iPhones, and other smart devices rather than sitting through (and paying attention to) commercials!

However, if marketers are smart, they will start to take advantage of the large number of people fiddling around on their mobile devices while watching television programs.  According to Mashable, "Apps and tools, such as Shazam, might offer one way for marketers to get viewers interacting with ads." If consumers learn to engage with ads on their smartphones during commercial breaks, mobile devices will no longer pose a threat to TV commercials.

Tech Update

I've never done a technology piece on the Company Blog but the last week has had the World Wide Web stirring over news and rumors.

If you are in the search for a new phone or tired of your old iPhone, good news is on the way. On October 4, Apple will formally announce the iPhone 5 which is also rumored to be out only ten days later. Additionally, it is rumored that a new version of the iPhone 4 (appropriately called the iPhone 4S) and the iPod Touch will be announced at the same meeting. The story changes with each website (hence, why these are only rumors) and will only be confirmed after the press event.

Speaking of Apple products, rumors are also spiraling out of control that the iPod Classic will be retired soon. This product was launched as early as October 2001 (yes, it's been 10 years) but with the introduction of other products such as the iPhone and iPod Touch has seen sales of the Classic suffer a tad. Some are speculating when (or if) this will happen. It's very possible that it won't be done on October 4. If you want to keep your precious iPod Touch for longer, you should consider getting some promotional iPod accessories on the Motivators website.

Amazon has big news of its own. The geniuses behind the Kindle and changing the face of online shopping have introduced the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire is the company's response to Apple's iPad and will be sold at a fraction of the price - a mere $199. The tablet has WiFi capability, Gorilla Glass screen, lighter weight of the iPad and has access to the Android market. There are some features that are found in the iPad not found in the Kindle Fire - but how could you pass up when it's over $300 cheaper than the iPad?

No matter what you choose, there are promotional iPod holder and cases that are perfect for protecting your new device.
