Bitter Sweet Good Bye

This past weekend has been the last weekend I spent in my house which I have gotten to call home for the last 22 years. It is a bitter sweet good bye, I really loved that house, but my parents are ready to move away to the hills of Pennsylvania. I get to move on to apartment living. And unfortunately this past weekend was a whirl wind of crazy.  I had a wedding on Saturday which was a blast. And the same day I had to bring my dog for emergency surgery to remove a tumor in his stomach.  Then on Sunday I had to help move 80% of the furniture in my house to store at my Grandma's house. And then on Monday I got to relax and bring my dog home from the hospital, which meant watching him stare at the wall because he was on so many medications.  So much for a relaxing 3 day weekend!  Every one of my nails is broken and my emotions are hanging on by a thread.  This is my cry for help! Does anybody know a good way to get dogs to take pills? Or does anyone have moving tips?

Yes, on both Smile

Getting dogs to take pills... gently open his mouth by putting your hand under his chin and using your thumb and pointer fingers between his jaw. I'm a righty, so I use my left hand for this part. Then with the other hand, use the same two fingers to put the pill as far back in his mouth as you can either on the side of his tongue or on top of it (top is best, but hard to get to). Then gently hold his mouth shut for a few seconds until he swallows the pill. If he's being stubborn, you can gently rub his throat, and that helps a little. But don't let go until he swallows, otherwise you'll have a big ol' mess. If he is not good about this whole process, wrap the pill in a piece of soft cheese or bread and give it to him like a treat. Just watch to make sure he doesn't spit it out. Then you'll be stuck with lots of little pieces, which is not fun... and gross, lol. At PetSmart you can also find these treats made my Greenies called "pill pockets" - I find those work well too.

As for moving... keep a separate suitcase of stuff you'll need right away so that if you don't get to unpack for even a week or so, you have clothes, toiletries, etc. on hand. And label EVERYTHING. Honestly, the more organized you are when packing, the easier things will go with moving/unpacking.

Good luck!!!!
