In my opinion, giving back to your Alma mater is very important. They helped you get where you are now, and are part of a very important chapter of your life: College. They prepared you for the work force, helped you with your resume and interview skills, and in some cases may have put you in touch with your current employer. With that being said, making even small donations can lead to big results as each individual donation adds to the bigger picture.
Universities choose to recognize donations in many different ways. Some send a letter, others a simple email, but I have always felt that my Alma Mater, the University of Miami, takes it to the next level. After purchasing season tickets to the Hurricanes Football games, in which part of the ticket price is a donation to the UM Alumni Association, I received the card below. Not only is there a very touching note on one side, but the second side is a hologram branded luggage tag thanking me for my generous support. I love the tag line, "Regardless of where you travel, your UM Pride will travel with you!" This special token is not over the top, flashy, or expensive but rather a very clever way to say "Thank you!" The end of the note suggests that I use this luggage tag to show my Hurricane Pride and I know I will be doing just that! Thanks UM!
