Facebook Saves Hostages

What would you do if you were in a hostage situation with no phone?  That's the position a Utah woman found herself and her 17-month-old child in just days ago.  But they survived -- thanks to Facebook.

Mashable reports that the woman and her son were locked inside their house, bruised and disoriented, and without a cellphone.  However, the child's mother was able to get her hands on a laptop, which she pulled into a closet to update her status.  What did her message say?  That if nobody came to help, the two of them would be "dead by morning."

Thankfully, a friend noticed the status and called police who came to the woman's aid.  The authorities arrested Troy Reed Critchfield and are investigating charges of domestic violence, animal cruelty, and other allegations.  According to the woman, Critchfield also treated her child and his promotional baby items roughly.

Despite her injuries, the woman chose not to seek medical attention.  Critchfield has been jailed, and hopefully mother and baby are both doing just fine.
