This summer, things will be different.
In 2011, my family traveled to South Carolina and left me to fend for myself while Hurricane Irene ripped through New York. To say "it wasn't a great vacation" would be an understatement. My power was out for days -- I had no air conditioning (in the middle of August), no lights (in an empty house), and nowhere to go. A promotional flashlight became my BFF.
But like I said, this time around things are bound to go more smoothly! On Sunday, I'm flying out to Guanacaste, Costa Rica. I've never been to Central America before, so I'm beyond thrilled.

My family and I are staying at the Hotel Riu Guanacaste, which is supposed to be stunning. I feel really lucky that I get to tag along this time -- maybe even a little spoiled. But, hey, when you work hard all year, you're allowed to go on a fancy vacation, right?
This summer, things will be different. I will not be stuck in New York because of a hurricane. No, I'll be having the time of my life. And while I'll probably still take along my promotional flashlight (you just never know!), I plan on making a few new BFFs: the capuchin monkeys that are native to the area.

I'll be away all next week, so try not to miss my daily blog updates!
