Now, I know you are probably thinking there is a typo in the title of this blog but I can assure you that there is not. Just to follow up on last week's blog, I spoke of attending the Miami Hurricanes Football game against NC State. While the tailgate was fantastic, our season ticket seats are amazing, and I had all the orange and green "swag" a girl could dream of (koozies, cups, and sunglasses to name a few), the heat index was 99!!!
Now, for those of you from the Northeast (most of you, I am sure), heat index is not a common phrase. With all due respect, you guys have what is called wind chill. I am going to explain these two terms as I have just learned them myself and feel you can appreciate their definition as they pertain to this blog. Basically, wind chill is the temperature that it "feels" against your skin or body, instead of what the actual temperature is, when the case may be that it "feels" cooler. Heat index is the same but on the opposite end of the spectrum. It is not the temperature it actually is, but what it feels like or the human-perceived equivalent. So, when I express how warm I was, just image being outside from approximately 9:30am until approximately 5:30pm when the temperature FEELS like 99 degrees. I could have been having all the fun in the world (which I was!) but that didn't make me feel any less HOT!
In other words...I have hiked Masada without feeling as warm as I did last Saturday. (Okay, that might be a bit dramatic but check out this pic of me and some friends after hiking Masada in 2008).

With that being said, it wasn't long before a promotional item caught my eye! In the distance, I saw what was believed to be a branded helmet hand fan and to the ease of my soul, that is what I found! Similar to our Helmet Sandwiched Fan, the Florida Lottery used this promotional piece to not only cool down the Hurricane fans, but also to promote the fact that the Florida Lotto funds education scholarships and also gave a statistic about how many UM students were granted one. While I did not spend too much time reading the fine print, I will say that I can thank the Florida Lottery to making my game more enjoyable. Eric believes you actually exert more heat by fanning yourself, when compared to just sitting still, but I disagree and quickly became a fan, of my fan!
The moral of my story is a Hand Fan makes for a Happy Fan!
