This past weekend - Labor Day weekend - the last official weekend of summer we had - my husband and I went to visit some friends of ours who just had a baby girl, who I must add is absolutely precious. I was surprised when I walked into their house though because it was filled with promotional baby items everywhere. First thing that caught my attention was all of the promotional balloons all over the house. The new mommy had hung up colorful balloons all over the house with little messages on all of the them - IT'S A GIRL!! Then on the flowers that were sent to the mom, I notices instead of cards, there was promotional baby rattles, again with messages of "congratulations" and "it's a girl". The my friend showed me some pictures from the hospital and of course, in the background of one of the pictures, there was a little gift basket for the new mom with a set of essentials, such as bathing towels, baby bath thermometer, baby shampoo, powder, baby bottles, and a customized baby bib. And finally when we were about to leave, they whipped out promotional chocolates with "It's A Girl" wrappers on them. By the end of the night, I was overwhelmed by all of the promotional goodies; I couldn't imagine what the baby must have felt like. I guess there is no escaping promotional items - it seems to stalk all of us from the moment we are born!
