My coworker Laurie recently clued me in on a fantastic New York tradition: Long Island Restaurant Week. Twice a year, eateries from all over the island -- including Nassau County, Suffolk County and the east end -- participate in this eight-day event which aims to build awareness for regional restaurants.
According to the Long Island Restaurant Week website, "From Sunday to Sunday, each participating restaurant offers its own unique three-course prix fixe for $24.95 all night, except Saturday when it is offered only until 7 p.m." Almost 250 restaurants between Garden City and Montauk will take part in the event, which is scheduled for Nov. 4 - 11, 2012.
In its first year, revenue totaled to an estimated $2,848,200. Today, the promotional campaign continues to be hugely successful. "Many participants reported midweek numbers to be up over 40 to 100% and an increase in sales and reservations up to 200% due to the promotion," reports the Long Island Restaurant Week official website.
And, in case you were wondering, Long Island Restaurant Week locations are known to be highly regarded. For example, Vintage Prime Steak House in my hometown of St. James boasts rave reviews on Yelp, Open Table, Trip Advisor and even Zagat. At just $24.95 for a three-course meal, it's an amazing deal.
